When the Plates Stop Spinning: We're Not Alone
Jul 16, 2025
The pressure builds in my chest, climbs my throat and threatens to spill over in tears. The overwhelm is winning this morning.
"Take a breath", I whisper to myself, probably harsher than needed.
College tours with my daughter. College co-op planning with my son. Dentist appointments. Dog allergy meds. Work deadlines. Cleaning up the house. The endless mental load of scanning, thinking, processing & suggesting. Even when it's not all my responsibility, somehow I'm still the one keeping track.
Sleepless nights blur into exhausted days, all wrapped in menopause brain fog that makes everything feel harder. How does everyone else manage this so seemingly effortlessly while I constantly feel like I am failing?
Most days I remind myself that we're all doing the best we can. Some days are more successful than others. When I share these struggles with close friends, they nod knowingly - we're clearly not alone in this.
So why does it feel so isolating?
Here's what I am learning... The overwhelm isn't just about the tasks - it's about the carrying of the emotional weight of everyone's needs while forgetting to tend to our own.
But in those moments when the plates threaten to crash? Community saves me. The amazing women who encourage, support and remind me that this season won't last forever.
We're not failing. We're navigating a demanding chapter - and we don't have to do it alone.
