Learning to Trust the Quiet: A Journey from Chaos to Calm

You know what's ironic? I've longed endlessly for balance - those magical days when work flows, home responsibilities feel manageable and there is actually time to fit in a workout or a walk in the sunshine. Yet when that moment arrives, something unexpected happens.
Instead of relief, my body tenses up. Instead of joy, anxiety creeps in. My system, so accustomed to chaos and survival mode, cannot recognize the unfamiliar peace.
It feels like a threat. Anyone else feel that too?
Here's what I am learning about this paradox... when we have lived so long in survival mode, balance can feel foreign - even frightening. Our minds race to fill the quiet with tasks. Our bodies, programmed for pushing through, searches for the next emergency.
The old response would be to numb these uncomfortable feelings - maybe with endless scrolling, comfort food or diving back into chaos. But what if there's another way?
Here's how I am practicing LYFE (Loving Yourself Forward Everyday) in these moments:
1. Notice
- Recognize when peace feels threatening
- Acknowledge the discomfort with judgment
- Understand that this is normal - your system is trying to protect you
2. Stay Present
- Resist the urge to fill the space with tasks or busy-ness
- Take deep breaths when anxiety rises
- Remember that you deserve this peace
3. Work on Building Trust
- Start small and take 5 minutes of intentional pause (and build up over time)
- Practice gratitude for these moments
- Remind yourself that peace is safe
The truth is, balance isn't just about managing time - it's about trusting that we deserve these lighter moments. That we are allowed to breathe, to pause, to experience joy without waiting for the other shoe to drop.
